The Pop-Up River Beer Garden at Race Street Pier was first derived in 2019 when the famous Ghost Ship installation, by the Europe-based Biangle Studio, arrived under the Ben Franklin Bridge. The Pop-Up River Beer Garden happily re-opened for the 2022 season to provide a stop along the Philly River Stroll to give locals and tourists alike a reason to soak up the sun and the view at the riverfront.
Race Street Pier offers some of the most photogenic backdrops in Philadelphia. As a crucial part of the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation’s Master Plan, Race Street Pier focuses on its relationship with the City of Philadelphia and the amazing people that inhabit it. The River Beer Garden at Race Street was excited to join this fantastic location during the Summer months to add another reason to stop by and enjoy the view.
About Race Street Pier
The new Race Street Pier opened on May 12, 2011 as the first new public space of its kind to be realized as part of DRWC’s ambitious new Master Plan for the Central Delaware River Waterfront. Formerly Municipal Pier 11, the pier was renamed as the Race Street Pier to further reinforce its relationship to the City and reinstate its historic name.
Race Street Pier is an integral part of a series of open space improvements proposed every half mile along the central Delaware as part of the new Master Plan for the Central Delaware. Funding for new park has been provided by The City of Philadelphia, The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, William Penn Foundation, The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (Coastal Zone Management) and a challenge grant from The Pew Charitable Trusts.
